We had a family Thanksgiving at the Pilot House. It is a beautiful, spacious home in a quiet area, with a great view and a wonderful location close to the village. There are so many places “to be” in the Pilot House, which was great for our 3-generation family vacation. All of us loved it. (We have rented other properties from Golden Isles Realty, and have been very pleased with their service.)

Welcome to the Pilot House, a beautiful historic home on the St. Simons Sound! Pilot House has been owned and cared for by the same family since it was built in 1927, giving this home a unique and rich history. Even its name is a nod to the Pilot House's history; it has been owned by several generations of harbor pilots. While it is one of the oldest homes in the area, it has many modern comforts and amenities. The location is perfect: a dead-end street just past the Pier Village. You can walk to the popular shops and restaurants in the Village while you enjoy the fresh island breeze. You also won't be far from the many public beach accesses on the island! You can sometimes access the beach at the pier during low tide, but the next closest access would be about a mile away from this home. Enjoy views of the Sound in every bedroom and plenty of outdoor seating on the screened porch. Watch the ships and boats go by and take in the island air, which perfectly pairs with a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine. You may even get lucky and spot a few dolphins out in the Sound! Hang out indoors if you'd like - there are two sitting rooms with plenty of space to spread out. This home has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 3 floors. The first floor has both sitting rooms, a formal dining room, an updated and spacious kitchen with a breakfast area, full-sized laundry room, bedroom, and bathroom. The kitchen has been thoughtfully furnished with brand-new cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a new wine fridge. The bedroom on the first floor has a king bed, walk-in closet, and TV. The bathroom has a shower/tub combo. On the second floor you'll find two more bedrooms and bathrooms, both having access to a balcony looking out to the sound. At the top of the stairs, the bedroom to the left has a king bed, walk-in closet, TV, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and its own sitting room with another TV. The other bedroom on this floor has a king bed, TV, lots of closet space, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a stairwell that will lead you to the third floor. The third floor has the fourth bedroom, furnished with a queen bed, TV, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Come enjoy a little piece of history at the Pilot House! No pets allowed. Maximum Occupancy: 8 CHECK IN AT 3:00 PM CHECK OUT AT 10:00 AM Parking is provided via street parking in front of the house on Virginia Street. Also a bunch a critters were encountered inside the dwelling: Moths, geckos, millipedes, pincher bugs. Eh, whatever. The decor was very nicely beach themed and updated. Generally clean (vice the laundry room and inside of the kitchen cabinets and drawers). Kitchen is pretty beat. Needs an update, but the appliances all work fine. Plenty of linens and kitchen wares.

We absolutely love the Beehive. It’s a comfortable escape, beautifully situated close to the water. It reminds me of beach cottages my parents rented for our family sixty years ago. There’s a board walk from the front door to the ocean, a wonderful raised deck seaside and an outside shower for sandy feet. It’s such a fun place to bring children. (no long walks to the beach carrying all your gear and no elevators) The Beehive has a fine kitchen, laundry, cable tv, high speed internet. There’s a basket full of beach towels by the door to the fabulous front porch. This home is nicely located, a one mile walk or bike ride to St Simon’s public fishing pier, library, theater, playground, public pool and shopping/restaurant district.

This two-story home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and can easily accommodate a family or group of up to 6 people. The bedroom on the first floor has a queen bed, and the bathroom has a walk-in shower. The other two bedrooms are upstairs, with one having two twin beds and the other having a queen bed. Welcome to Driftwood Dream! This beautiful townhome is tucked away in Island Marshwood, a community located on Demere Road, in a great place for walking, biking, or just enjoying the breeze! The community also offers a pool for its residents to cool off on a hot summer day. Enjoy the convenience of having the beach, grocery store, great restaurants, and island shops all within one to two miles of Driftwood Dream - your home away from home. This is a two-story townhome. The living room, kitchen, half bathroom, enclosed porch, and patio are all on the first floor. Both bedrooms, both full bathrooms, and the laundry facilities are on the second floor. The master bedroom has a queen bed and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The second bedroom has two twin beds, a small TV, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower/tub combo. This unit also has a lovely back patio with seating and an umbrella for shade - perfect for those days you just want to stay in with a good book! There is a TV in the living room and a TV in the bedroom with the twin beds. No cable. Peacock with Live Local NBC and Paramount Plus with Live Local CBS provided. A beautifully decorated and equipped unit with a great balcony and view made for a wonderful vacation. Very clean and well taken care of. Would definitely try to rent again in future vacations.

The condo was wonderful! Beautifully decorated! Fit our family of 6 wonderfully! We enjoyed the beach each day and then hit the pool on our way in for the day. Little bit of a walk to the beach. A beautifully decorated and equipped unit with a great balcony and view made for a wonderful vacation. Very clean and well taken care of. Would definitely try to rent again in future vacations.

We enjoyed our stay but experienced headaches, vertigo, body aches and fatigue especially when we were housebound during inclement weather. Perhaps it was regular spraying for insects or poor ventilation. You couldn’t open any windows. When we left mid month and we’re outside we were much improved. Just odd.
We did like the location and convenience. It was nicely arranged and decorated. The master room adjustable bed was a treat.

Hi Linda, I am sorry to hear that you didn't feel well during your stay, but I assure you it had nothing to do with the rental. This time of year the pollen is TERRIBLE and affects people in different ways, not to mention the colds that are passed around due to our uneven temperatures during the winter. The windows are able to be opened, so we'll check to make sure they aren't stuck from the recent paint job. The HOA only sprays for insects monthly, sometimes every other month. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay overall!

The refrigerator went out during our stay and they promptly installed a new one. We loved the pool and it was cleaned professionally every other day, which was great since it stormed most afternoons. We did have to drive to restaurants, stores and the beach, but the neighborhood was very nice. We had great privacy. Our family of 7 adults and 1 child were able to stay comfortably.The house does need a few repairs such as the sliding side door and an area on the stairs. Overall it was worth the price for the week. The Golden Isles company was fantastic, they met all of our needs and kept in close contact!

The management company was very receptive when we reached out regarding pool maintenance, and communicated with us as necessary. The upstairs room is beautiful, but tricky for adults (and suitcases) to navigate the spiral stairs. Other than a few items missing (toaster, extra frying pan) in the kitchen we made some great meals and even better memories.

This cottage is perfect for whatever your needs are! The nearest beach access is only about a mile away, and the Pier Village is less than a mile down the street. You will even be within walking distance to St. Simons' newest attraction - the pickleball courts! There are four bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Come in, sit down, and relax! This house is equipped with a full size kitchen and a dining table fit for 6. The ground floor offers three bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a set of bunk beds, and one with a queen and a twin. There is a full bedroom and bathroom on the second floor accessed via a spiral stair case in the bunk bedroom. The upstairs bedroom has a king bed and a twin. The bathroom is a full bathroom with a stand alone shower. This property offers an air conditioned closed back porch with direct views of the pool so the adults can relax in the A/C while the kids swim. There is also an outdoor shower to rinse off the salt from a long beach day! A grill is provided, with one side made for charcoal and one side made for propane. My family has been visiting the Thornton Cottage since 1985. To celebrate my 40th bday I invited my closest friends to come share this amazing space.

Although it was a rainy weekend, we enjoyed having the windows open, time on the screened porch, and a huge umbrella on the balcony so we could still be outside.

I was most excited that there has been a mattress upgrade! Everyone slept well.

My guests loved the simplicity of the cottage and the quick access to the beach and the Village.

I will be back.

We were thankful for the opportunity to stay at the Thornton Cottage. It was perfect for us. What fun it was to sit on the swing on the side porch and watch the ocean, the full moon over the ocean at night, the people and activities on the beach. We experienced our first tropical storm safe inside the Thornton Cottage which had withstood many storms and hurricanes over the years. The cottage was homey, the furnishings were clean and comfortable. We took our walks on the beach, the nearby marsh, and the pier which were all within walking distance even for a pair of senior citizens.
We enjoyed lots of ice cream with our family. The Thornton cottage was perfect for us. The staff at Golden Isles Realty were helpful, courteous, and wonderful to deal with. We would certainly recommend this property to others.

Over all our rental experience was good.
The house need a few small changes such as putting a Queen Bed in the upstairs bedroom that goes out to the deck. (Hard for 2 adults to sleep on a full). The upstairs bathroom needs a shower rod/kirtan put up in the bathroom so more that 1 person can take a shower at the same time. The place was dusty with out of date kirtans, golf balls & plastic fork & spoon left on the floor from previous renters. Great location, walking distance to the village. We would recommend this house to friends. We will stay there again.

The location is absolutely amazing. Right on the beach! With that said, the house needs some updating. The stairs going up to the bedrooms seemed a little weak and bending as if you might fall through. The beds definitely need new mattresses. My wife's family has been staying here for 30+ years and I don't think the beds have been updated in all that time. The porch swing chain is rusting and feels like it may come down soon. Overall though, the stay was great, just needs some updating for the price.

The location was amzing and so convenient. Easy with kids. Amzing to sit on porch and beach at night and look at stars and ocean. We stayed on the beach one night until 10pm. The house could use some updating. Only 1 shower - the bathroom upstairs only has a bath tub - so all adults have to use the same bathroom to shower. We had kids use outdoor shower but note it only has cold water. Beds and mattresses need to be changed out. Sheets and towels were clean. House was clean, just old. As long as you set your expectations and know what you are getting into, it will work out. We loved the location.

Built in the 1920’s, the Thornton Cottage will bring back fond memories of a youth spent on the island. We have proudly been representing the Thornton Cottage for over 40 years. If you are trying to find that relaxing place that you can leave the hustle and bustle of the modern world behind, then this part of Saint Simons and the Thornton Cottage are just the place for you! Sit on the screened porch with a swing off the living room and enjoy the breeze from the ocean and the great view. Ground floor has living room, dining room, kitchen, one bedroom with two twin beds and a full bathroom with tub/shower combo. The second floor has two bedrooms- one with two double beds and one with one double bed. There is a Jack and Jill style bathroom with a bath tub on the second floor (please note that the only shower is located on the ground floor). While leaving the modern world behind can leave some a bit nervous, never fear, this house is equipped with WiFi, cable, and HDTV in the living room. AC/heat provided through window units. If you need an extra bedroom the Guest Cottage is available to rent alongside the main house. Refer to Thornton Guest Cottage for rates. No pets allowed. My family has been visiting the Thornton Cottage since 1985. To celebrate my 40th bday I invited my closest friends to come share this amazing space.

Although it was a rainy weekend, we enjoyed having the windows open, time on the screened porch, and a huge umbrella on the balcony so we could still be outside.

I was most excited that there has been a mattress upgrade! Everyone slept well.

My guests loved the simplicity of the cottage and the quick access to the beach and the Village.

I will be back.

We experienced our first tropical storm safe inside the Thornton Cottage which had withstood many storms and hurricanes over the years. The cottage was homey, the furnishings were clean and comfortable. We took our walks on the beach, the nearby marsh, and the pier which were all within walking distance even for a pair of senior citizens.
We enjoyed lots of ice cream with our family. The Thornton cottage was perfect for us. The staff at Golden Isles Realty were helpful, courteous, and wonderful to deal with. We would certainly recommend this property to others.

I was unable to go due to a broken femur but my two sisters and brother went. They had only good comments and enjoyed their stay immensely. The beach access was the key. I've stayed at this wonderful old beach cottage something like 10 times now over the past 20 years, and I absolutely adore it. There are very, very few houses like it left on St. Simons, and to stay in it for a week is to relive what it used to be like on the island. I'll continue to rent the Thornton Cottage as long as it's available, and I recommend it to other folks, too, who don't need the bells and whistles available in contemporary condominiums. ... Having said that, I have one very serious complaint: something *must be done* about the beds, especially the double bed in the beautiful main bedroom upstairs, and to a lesser extent with the twin beds in the bedroom downstairs. The upstairs bed is intolerable: the headboard is cracked and unattached to the bed frame itself and bangs loudly against the wall with any movement in the bed (and no, I'm not talking about, shall we say, *vigorous* movement with two people -- I'm talking about one person rolling over). Both the mattress pad and the sheets were virtually in tatters, and were so stretched out that they came off the corners of the bed essentially the instant you laid down in it. The mattress itself is sprung out and terribly uncomfortable as well, and I had to fetch pillows from the other bedroom upstairs because the ones on the bed itself were old and well past being useful. C'mon, guys! The rest of the house is fine (and the folks at Golden Isles responded to my request for some comfortable chairs for the upstairs deck), but put $1,000 or so of the $2,500 my friend and I paid you into a new bed, and either fix or get rid of the old headboard. Everyone who stays in the house will thank you. Cheers, and I look forward to seeing you again! -- Dan Cabaniss

Such a fantastic location with an easy bike ride or walk to the Pier and other local spots. Right on the beach. We enjoyed sipping our happy hour cocktails on the deck. Otherwise, as the adage goes, “you get what you pay for.” The beds and pillows could use upgrading, the fridge door shelf kept getting detached, the bathroom was not insulated/cooled.
